Description

Bioinformatics is a multidisciplinary field of study that uses computational and statistical tools to answer large biological questions. The advent of next-generation DNA/RNA sequencing and other high-throughput biological techniques has resulted in extremely large datasets. In this program, students will learn underlying biological concepts as well as how to store, process and interpret such datasets. Courses cover an array of relevant fields like Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, and Bioinformatics. This knowledge will allow you to answer questions such as which DNA mutations cause disease, how are different species related at the genome level, and how do drug molecules interact with proteins. You can gain experience in bioinformatics by participating in novel research with one of the Bioinformatics faculty.
